The Utah Geological Survey (part of the Utah Department of Natural Resources) has an immediate opening for a computer science student to support database and web app development on several existing projects. The student will work in a team of two other programmers in continuing development of a paleontological (fossil) locality database and web interface, a geologic hazards technical clearinghouse (database and web interface that supports collection of technical information after a major geologic event, such as an earthquake), our groundwater data portal (database and web interface of monitoring well data), and imagery data (database, and web/windows interface to manage our aerial imagery collection).
The ideal candidate will have experience with PHP, mySQL, MS SQL Server 2008, C#, Java, Apache, and Adobe Flash in Windows Server and Linux environments. We anticipate some interfacing with ESRI's SDE and ArcServer applications as well (web mapping). The position is available for 20 hours per week until April, and then 40 hours per week to July, with the potential to extend with available funding. The position pays an hourly rate of $14.03. Interested candidates should send a resume to stevebowman@utah.gov in MS Word for PDF formats by December 11th.
