CS student needed for Web-based information projects

The Utah Geological Survey (UGS) will likely be hiring a computer science student for Summer 2011 to support the development of several Web-based information projects.  The first project will involve developing an emergency information clearinghouse that will be used in response to various geologic-related emergencies (earthquakes, landslides, etc.), and the second project will involve developing a paleontological (fossils) locality database.  Both will require fairly extensive database work.  We are also anticipating the emergency information clearinghouse will have some mobile device access from smart phones and tablets.

We would like to find a student with experience in PHP, mySQL, MS SQL, and C++/C# programming, Apache Web server, mobile devices, and Windows/Linux operating systems.  Project functionality, workflow, requirements, and user interface layout assistance will be provided by several geologists at the UGS, and development assistance from another programmer.  The position will likely be 40 hours per week for up to four months starting in May 2011, with a salary of $14.03 per hour.  Interested candidates should send a current resume to Steve Bowman, Geologic Hazards Program Manager at stevebowman@utah.gov by May 2, 2011.  Additional information about the UGS may be found at geology.utah.gov.
