Software Engineer

Programming Technical Skills/Knowledge        

• Maintains an in-depth understanding of industry application development methodologies, tools and techniques.
• Keeps current with new developments in the information technology industry.
• Assists with the development and implementation of department specific standards and methodologies.
• Develops and maintains, with minimal supervision or assistance, programs that require intermediate programming skills.
• Demonstrates a moderate level of proficiency in editing, compiling and debugging and other applicable development tools.
• Is knowledgeable in all aspects of application programming and the application language.
• Performs thorough program/unit testing on all assigned projects and assists with project testing as needed.

Analyst Technical Skills/Knowledge     

• Gathers and documents business requirements for simple to moderately complex projects, and proposes solutions.
• Demonstrates a basic level of proficiency in developing structured charts, entity relationship diagrams, data flow diagrams, process dictionaries and accompanying documentation.
• Demonstrates proficiency in generating and developing design and technical specifications and instructions for simple to moderately complex projects. 
• Works with users, analysts and other technical staff to develop specifications and test scripts in verbal, textual or graphical form. 
• Ensures that specifications are thorough and sufficient to manage customer expectations.
• Performs ad-hoc query of production data. Consults with business users performing queries.

Project Management

• Assists with the development of project plans.
• Sees through to completion project tasks within assigned areas of responsibility and within project schedules.
• Works with clients and staff to effectively prioritize application development requests and projects.
• System Configuration, Installation, Support, Administration, and Maintenance   
• Performs, without supervision, basic system functions.
• Sets up run time environment.
• Assists with installation and support of their projects

Documentation and Reporting

• Thoroughly and clearly documents changes made in technical and customer terms, as specified in programming standards and conventions, in both the source code and other department specific tracking procedures.
• Documents business requirements and essential functionality requirements for the selection of third party applications. Consults with business users for package selection projects. Integrates in-house developed and/or third party applications into total business solutions.

This position will work with confidential and proprietary information that requires a signed IT Employee Invention and Confidentiality Agreement upon hire.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science OR 4 years experience in software design and development.  SelectHealth verifies both degree attainment and educational institution accreditation following an offer of employment.
• Experience in J2EE/Java or Microsoft .NET
• Solid knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL)
• Database development experience with Oracle, Sybase, or SQL Server
• Knowledge of object oriented analysis & design
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Must be passionate

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with source control system, product build environment, analysis and debugging tools
• Experience using a solid development methodology
• Experience using test driven design/development practices
• Object oriented analysis and design in a multi-tier SOA environment
