Programmer needed

Professor Tim Garrett in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences is seeking a programmer to facilitate WASHARX, an NSF funded project to study aggregation and riming of snowflakes at Alta Ski Area.

http://www.inscc.utah.edu/~tgarrett/Snowflakes/Snowflakes.html

What is needed is rapid on-the-fly image processing and web posting of snowflake images as they are photographed in free fall. Image processing scripts have already been developed
using the Matlab Image Processing Toolbox that perform automated rejection of out-of-focus
images, for example. What is needed is scripts in some C variant to speed-up analysis,
make it more portable, and post the images to an internet browser. The code can be
developed from scratch or adapted from the matlab code.

In addition to having the necessary programming skills, a qualified applicant should have
basic downhill skiing skills and equipment necessary to reach the site within the Alta Ski
Area bounds. Day passes will be provided where necessary.

The pay rate is negotiable, but will be in the vicinity of $10 per hour.
