Part-time Database Manager Position

The Utah Birth Defect Network (UBDN) in the Division of Pediatric Medical Genetics, University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a part-time non-benefitted (19 hours/week) Database Manager who will support the National Birth Defect Prevention Study. The Database Manager will assist the UBDN Senior Data Manager with database management of the surveillance data to meet requirements of the ongoing case-control study. This position will develop and maintain a data dictionary and documentation for the UBDN data systems. He/she will add enhancements to the existing UBDN surveillance database and assist with study specific tasks such as monthly data replication, data quality assurance and development of user interfaces. This person will also assist with transfer of UBDN Databases from MS Access to MS SQL server environment.

Responsibilities include:            
                                                                       
·         Design, develop, and test enhancements to the existing UBDN surveillance database to improve efficiency and accuracy, data quality assurance and development of user interfaces.          
·         Assist with new Access module development as needed.
·         Write documentation manual for UBDN surveillance and the study.     
·         Assist with the design to transition the UBDN database into client server application in data warehouse environment (SQL).
·         Perform and submit monthly data replication files to send to funding agency.
·         Other responsibilities as assigned.           
                                                                                        
Minimum Requirements:
·         Bachelor’s degree in computer technology or at least 2 years data management experience if degree is not in computer technology.
·         Working knowledge of MS Access, Visual Basic and MS SQL server 2008.
·         Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications.
·         Ability to work and communicate effectively across different teams and with different groups of people. 
·         Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
·         Experience working with large scale databases is desirable.

Work Schedule:  Flexible – schedule can be worked out with the Senior Database Manager
