Internship Opportunity: Starlight Productions

Starlight Productions, based in Salt Lake City, is a leading producer of educational animations for the planetarium market (starlight-prod.com). In order to meet growing demand for our products, we are seeking to build a student production team.

Team members will use Digistar and Full Dome products and will have the opportunity to develop a variety of skills including: computer programming/networking, story scripting, video and audio production, creative/conceptual visualization for content, 3D animation, computer networking, and more.

We seek team members with backgrounds in computer programming, graphics, film, math, science, communications, or other related fields.

The duration of the internship can be flexible to meet the team’s needs, although we do require a minimum of 2 months, 10hr/wk commitment. If team members are currently enrolled students and would like credit for this internship, we are willing to work with your home institution to make that happen.

This internship is unpaid. However, if the team produces successful products, there is a possibility of some revenue from royalties.

We seek responsible, reliable interns with the following skills, or with an interest and ability to learn the following skills:

      real-time code programming for the Digistar Full Dome System, which includes knowledge of coordinate show code to a show time clock so that events happen according to animatics;
      using technical software packages, such as Flash, 3d studio max, Maya, Lightwave, Softimage and Cinema 4D;
      script writing for science, math, biology and other subjects to be presented to the general public;
      drawing in 2D to create sketches, artwork or illustrations;
      knowledge of the internet and the ability to work with file transfer protocol (FTP) to gain and provide assets and images for production;
      designing models, backgrounds, sets, characters, objects and the animation environment;
      developing the timing and pace of the movements of a character or object during the sequence of images (called the animatic) and ensuring they follow the soundtrack and audio requirements;
      building up accurate, detailed frame-by-frame visuals;
      recording dialogue and working with editors to composite the various layers of animation (backgrounds, special effects, characters and graphics) in order to produce the finished piece;
      working to production deadlines and meeting clients' commercial requirements

To apply, email Aaron McEuen @ atmceuen@starlight-prod.com with a cover letter, resume, and contact information for three references.
